Goodness sakes! It’s Monday again already. Always amazes me how that keeps happening. Laundry’s well underway and my daughter came over yesterday and hauled garbage and compost and stuff to prevent us being buried under our own detritus.
I finished knitting Joshua Eckels` Rugged Messenger Bag from Bag Style:
and felted the pieces but haven’t assembled it yet. I got tempted off the straight and narrow by a fellow Raveller and started the Chevalier Mittens:
I finished the first one and should have finished the second last night but discovered I’d screwed up the cabling somewhere back a million or so rounds. Of course, that didn’t stop me from continuing to knit for another hour before eventually bowing to the inevitable and frogging back past where I’d picked up after supper. I did actually manage to fix the problem and knit enough to be sure I’d gotten it right (for now) and maybe I’ll finish it tonight. They are very pretty mittens and kind of addicting to work on but I hope the pattern makes more sense in Finnish because the translation doesn’t so much and the chart is miniscule and hard to read. That’s not by way of an excuse; I’m just an idiot. I had already done one more or less successfully.
A comment by another Raveller about “righteous shopping” to “stimulate the local economy” resulted in a brainstorm and I am going out in a few minutes to the local farm bakeries to purchase my Christmas baking! By the time I bought all the candied fruit and nuts and other ingredients, I`d be spending a bundle anyway and would still have days of working on my fet that I can well do without. If there`s anything I have to have that I can`t get this morning, I may hit Bulk Barn later on today but I`m going to be easily satisfied, I think. After all, I`ve been buying Christma spuddings for years now, having given up making them myself as I`m the only one who seems to want them. I can pass on them completely now as I really can`t handle the intense sweet any more and had pudding and hard sauce around for weeks last year.
Fortunately I did clear space in the kitchen freezer yesterday and bring up some stuff from the basement, storing other things downstairs that I don`t need until after the holidays. I say fortunately because I found that I do not in fact have a turkey tucked away and will need to buy two which could have been a nasty shock in a couple of weeks. I do have a ham but the turkey I cooked a few weeks ago would appear to have been the last.
In other news, we have acquired yet another (fifth) pussycat:
(Look really closely by The Ed`s chin.) Shewhomeasures found the half grown, scrawny kitten in her chicken coop where she had been attacked by hens. My daughter and her husband, both allergic to cats, really can`t handle another and theirs wasn`t having any part of it so we hauled her off to the vet for tests and shots and then brought her home here where she`s finding her way around. The rest of the herd don`t seem to mind too much except for Laptop who hates everybody. The new girl`s name is Pawlie Digital because she has more toes than any two cats need. She`s just about exactly the same size as Barney though her legs are much longer than his. Wait until he realizes she`s going to grow!
I was going to leave you with another cuddly kitten picture while I go buy baked goods but it looked identical to the first. They can do that for hours.

What a great picture. I would call it “Contentment” I can almost hear her purring from here.
